Oops, I did it again.

Yes friends...it has happened again. Last night I dislocated my right shoulder for the second time in my life.

I was riding Andelucia (Jayson's longboard) in the church parking lot when it happened. He had quite an unfortunate accident over a year ago while riding her as well, and suffered a severely shattered wrist. This was the first time I'd seen his longboard since then, and he offers it to me for a ride. So, I eagerly take her, and run to the top of the hill. I said to him just before going up there, "you watch...I'm probably going to dislocate my shoulder again..." So, down I go...picking up speed...feels pretty good, but I'm getting nervous so I hop off, and restart again about half way down the hill. This time, I make it to the bottom, and I'm turning around because I was getting close to a sidewalk curb, and then this tiny bump in the road catches the front longboard truck and sends me flying backwards. I felt something pop before I even hit the ground, and I knew that it was out of place again.

So...one of the first thoughts I have is, "Dang...I'm not going to be able to play in our softball game this Thursday!". Later realizations had me thinking that I'm probably not going to be playing for the rest of the season. I thought I had it back in place though, after a while of trying to move it around, but it was still extremely sore. So, I decide to just get on the road and head back to school. I do drive a stick shift, and my right arm was useless, so my left arm got called for the job. It's really not a big deal. It's pretty easy still to drive. Jayson followed me back to make sure everything was going to be okay.

Back at the apartment, I'm trying to figure out how I'm going to sleep with this extremely uncomfortable feeling. There was basically no position I could put it in to feel rest. After about an hour, and a little Taco Bell, I start thinking maybe it'd be smart to go to the hospital. The guys who were hanging out with me agreed that I should, and so off we went to Spartanburg Regional. Upon getting in the car, I felt incredible discomfort, and after shifting around a little, I felt it roll over and fall into place, this time for sure. I now had much more movement in my arm. However, it's still extremely tender so I decide to just go on and get it wrapped up anyway. I still have the stuff they put me in last time, but it's at my home-away-from-school home.

Our journey to Spartanburg Regional continues. Or so we thought! One of the guys who came along (we'll keep him nameless ) said "Hey, here's Spartanburg Regional...turn right." So, we park, I get out, and try to go in the door, but it's locked. I push the call box button, and a lady asks if she could help me. I tell her "I'm just trying to get in the hospital...how do I enter?" She then informs me that this is some kind of resource center, not the hospital. I guess they didn't have the resources I needed...because all I could do is feel retarded and apologize.

After much laughter about that, we found the hospital and I checked in. I spent about an hour in the waiting room, listening to all the ailments taking place around me. It was slightly depressing, and made it hard to concentrate on the book I was trying to read. Eventually I got up, walked around, and moved my arm in all kinds of motions. It was feeling much better than it had just a few hours before. There was a long line of people more sick than me in there, and instead of staying till maybe 4am to get wrapped, I decide to just get out of there and stick it out for a day until I could wrap it up myself at home.

So here I am...in my sling thing again. I knew it would happen eventually. The doctor told me last time that it's bound to keep happening, and his statement has just proven true. Interested in the original story? Click here.

Thanks again for those who helped me along last night, and for those who offered prayers. You guys are much appreciated!

Take me out to the ballgame!

Whooboy what a fun weekend!  Mainly Saturday, but Sunday was good too.  Shannon, I'm stealing the title of your blog for mine.

So it started out late on Thursday night when Shannon thought it'd be cool to be spontaneous and go to Friday's home opener for the Atlanta Braves!  And I'm thinkin'..."man I have to work on Friday till 5 and the game starts at 7:30.  We'd barely make it in time.  But I'm very very tempted, and decide that it's a good idea even if I have to leave work a little early.  The quest for tickets begins...but ended quickly after discovering that the cheapest available were $75.  Maybe it was a God thing...because, if you watched Friday's game, you know that it was an 11-1 slaughtering by the Mets.

Hope was not lost, however.  The quest for tickets continued for the following day's game.  Saturday was a 3:55pm game, and featured two of the sports hottest pitchers and best friends -- Smoltz vs. Glavine.  Even though Glavine is now a Met, it's hard not to see him as a Brave.  I still like the guy.  And when he enters the Hall of Fame in a few years, I'm confident he'll enter it with a Braves cap on.  But I digress.  Saturday tickets were found for $18!  Not too bad, but they were pretty high up and it was also getting close to the limit we wanted to pay.  Upon more searching, $24 tickets were found that would place us right behind the left field wall.  That was slightly over budget, but the seats were much better, so we splurged for them anyway.  Hot dog!  Here we come Atlanta, for our first game this year!

Saturday, we meet at Wal*Mart to get a few things to bring to the game.  Basically, just some peanuts and drinks.  We also had to bring blankets because it was to be quite a chilly day, in the low 40's with some wind.  Come about 11:30am, and we're finally ready to hit I-85S to Atlanta!  The ride was fun...I meant to do homework, but somehow that didn't happen.  Instead the time was passed just talking and jamming out to an eclectic mix of music.  It was most enjoyable.  I also said to her while we were on our way, "We're going to catch a homerun today, ok?"  She agreed.  Oh yea...and Shannon thinks there is an island in Minnesota !

We arrive at the park a little after 2:00pm.  The familiar smell of stadium food filled the air and our nostrils.  Fans buzzed about, checking out the various activities available to see and do before the game.  We walked around a while too...visiting the top for some sweet full view pictures of the field and a sweeping view of the city.

It's game time.  As usual, the national anthem was sung before the first pitch.  I'll tell ya...it was almost hard not to laugh during it.  The women singing it were certainly not doing so on the same time or key.  It was pretty rough.  But towards the end of it, four really cool (and loud) jets flew over head in a v-shaped pattern.  Those were neat.

Though the game had begun and first out of the inning had been recorded, I still wasn't quite situated.  I was fumbling around with something when I hear Shannon say something to the effect of "Bryan, this is coming at us!".  I wasn't really sure what to think...I was somewhat still focused on what I had been doing, but then there's this ball quickly approaching and sure enough, right at us.  I had a glove, but it was under the seat and didn't really have time to get it and put it on.  So instead I stand up, reach across Shannon, and bare hand the homerun that Paul Lo Duca for the NY Mets placed into the left field bleachers! It all happened so fast.  And I remember thinking "even if this thing hits my hand, there's no way it's going to stay in it."  Boy was I wrong!  Immediately, the chants of "throw it back! throw it back! throw it back!" began.  I'd even had this discussion with Larry a couple days prior to going (before I even knew I was going to this game) on what I'd do if I ever caught a homerun by the opposing team.  Part of me would want to keep the souvenir, but another part of me would want to stick true to the Braves and chuck it back onto the field, rejecting their well hit, but unwelcomed ball.  I guess I didn't have to wonder any more.  It wasn't long before it was sailing back onto the field and rolling to the infield.  Though I'd just lost a nice prize, I felt somewhat proud for sticking true to my team.

That's not all...oh no.  The kid (he was probably 17 or so) next to Shannon got pretty upset with me and she said he was complaining the rest of the game that I "stole the ball from his glove".    There was certainly no ball stealing happening.  My hand simply caught it before it entered his glove.  End of story.

What's more, is that seconds after I'd thrown it back onto the field, a lady who works for the park came up to me looking quite stern.  Shannon however thought she was coming to give me a prize for my great catch!  That'd been nice.  But rather, she came to reprimand me.  Apparently it's against park rules to throw anything (including caught balls) back onto the field, for the safety of the players and other fans nearby.  It makes sense, but who really thinks of that when you're in the heat of the moment, and you have hundreds of people surrounding you telling you to throw it back?!  She even said that in previous years they'd take people down to the local precinct for those types of antics, but luckily for me they've gotten a lot more lenient.  So I didn't really get in trouble...it was just a slap on the wrist and a "don't do that anymore".

To wrap this up with fewer details, the guys behind us were a bit annoying at times with their incessant jeers for Moises Alou who was playing left field for the Mets.  Though there were times in the later stages of their drunkenness that they were a little humorous.  Smoltz pitched a pretty good game, going 6 innings giving up 2 runs on 7 hits with 4 walks and 4 strikeouts.  Glavine did well too.  But in the end, it was NY's fielding, and the Braves' capitalization on those errors that cost them the game.  Wickman came in to close it out in the bottom of the 9th, but not before surrendering a walk and a hit, and giving us a scare.

Excellent game, and a great time with a fun friend.  We'll be doing it again this coming Friday when the Braves take on the Marlins at Turner Field.  Joining us shall be Michael Berry and Tara Girard.  They're great...I'm certainly looking forward to this weekend!  As for now, it's bed time!
